Police Officers protect the community by patrolling assigned areas, responding to incidents, conducting investigations, enforcing laws, and making arrests. They prepare detailed reports, testify in court, and engage in proactive problem-solving to ensure public safety. Officers often collaborate with the community to build trust and foster strong relationships.
Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment.
High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate’s Degree or military service is a plus.
Public contact work experience required; law enforcement or community service experience preferred.
Must have a valid California Class C Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Must pass a background check and meet POST job dimensions.
Spanish language skills are highly desirable.
Must successfully complete the Field Training Program upon hire.
No prior law enforcement experience required.
Must attend and successfully complete the POST Basic Academy.
Must have completed the POST Basic Academy but have no prior law enforcement experience.
At least 1 year of full-time law enforcement experience with a POST-certified agency.
Must have already completed the POST Academy and field training.
